Hydrotherapy

Benefits

The word hydrotherapy means water healing. It is controlled aquatic exercise which provides support to muscles and joints in a stress free environment .Hydrotherapy is more intensive than normal exercise, and helps to restore, maintain and improve muscle tissue and mobility whilst providing the body with support.

The warmth of the water helps to reduce pain, swelling and stiffness while the buoyancy of the water provides support during the exercise which is strengthening muscles and improving the mobility of joints. Hydrotherapy improves circulation and cardiovascular fitness and is also an excellent
aid to weight loss. With improved physical fitness comes better mental health and general wellbeing. Hydrotherapy can be used both pre and post operatively.

Treading Water Hydrotherapy

About Us

Treading Water is situated inside Pet Paraphernalia, a family run business established in 1983, owned and run by husband and wife, David and Ann Moss and their son Alastair. As a family they have owned, shown and bred first Cocker Spaniels and then Field Spaniels for over 35 years, and all three of them are Championship Show Judges.

They were first introduced to hydrotherapy when one of their Show Champion Field Spaniels injured his leg and needed treatment for a trapped nerve several years ago. They have had a keen interest in hydrotherapy ever since, but have only recently been in a position to open their own Centre.

They have a custom built hydrotherapy pool and a 3 meter underwater treadmill, both of which have the optional facility of added jets. The quality of the water is maintained to the highest possible standard. For the least mobile clients there is also the option of an overhead hoist to help them into the pool.

The Centre is run by Alastair and Ann, both of whom have passed nationally recognised ABC accredited examinations, which enable them to provide the best possible service to their clients, tailored to their individual needs. They aim to provide clients with a professional, affordable service which produces results.

Facilities

Hydrotherapy Pool

The pool is custom built on site. The water is four feet deep and is sanitised by the use of bromine and sterilised by the use of a UV unit. The water temperature is maintained to 28 degrees C.

The size of the pool is such that it allows controlled exercise of the client under the close supervision of the hydrotherapist at all times. The pool has the option of added jets which can be used as the client’s condition improves. The intensity of the jets and their direction are both fully adjustable. To gain access to the pool there is a ramp leading up to the water level and one leading down into the water.

Alternatively, for the most immobile of clients there is an overheadhoist, or they can be simply lifted gently into the water

Underwater Treadmill

The underwater treadmill is 3 metres long. The water is sanitised by the use of bromine and the temperature is maintained to 27 degrees C.

The height of the water is dependent uponthe condition that the client is being treated for. The underwater treadmill also has the optional facility of added jets, the height of which is fully adjustable.
